The four closure options explained

A cooling off is the lightest option and is meant for those who want to take some distance without stopping for good. The period runs from 24 hours up to seven days. During this period you cannot log in, deposit or play. At the end of the chosen period your account is reactivated automatically without any further steps.

A temporary closure goes a step further. You pick a period between one week and six months during which your account is fully blocked. You receive no marketing messages and cannot lift the block earlier. That is deliberate, because the block is meant to protect you from impulsive decisions.

A permanent closure is a final step. Your account is closed and cannot be reopened. Any remaining balance is returned to your verified payment method. Personal data is removed where the legal retention rules allow. Financial records are kept for the period required by HMRC and UK accounting rules.

What happens to your balance?

Before any closure is finalised, you have the chance to withdraw the remaining balance. If you do not, the balance is returned automatically to the most recently verified payment method. For larger sums a manual review by the finance team may be needed, which can add a few working days.

GAMSTOP registration

For UK players, GAMSTOP offers a free national self-exclusion scheme covering every UK Gambling Commission licensed online operator. Registration runs through gamstop.co.uk using your name, date of birth, address and email. You choose six months, one year or five years.

GAMSTOP is a formal self-exclusion run independently of any individual operator. During the GAMSTOP period you cannot log in, deposit or play at any UK-licensed site. Your FsCasino account itself is not closed automatically by a GAMSTOP registration, but every login attempt is blocked for as long as the registration is active.

What is the difference between cooling off and self-exclusion?

A cooling off is a short pause from 24 hours to seven days, meant for a quick rest without stopping for good. After the period ends, the account is reactivated automatically. A self-exclusion is longer and firmer: from a week to several months, and the exclusion cannot be lifted earlier than the chosen period.

Which option fits best depends on your situation. For a short break after a loss, a cooling off is fine. If you notice that you need more distance, or that impulsive play is becoming a pattern, a longer self-exclusion is a more serious step that protects you better.

Can a permanent closure be reversed?

No, a permanent closure is deliberately final and cannot be reversed. That is an important safeguard against impulsive decisions in a moment of doubt. If you want to play again later you would have to open a new account in your own name, which is usually refused by the internal checks on previously closed accounts.

If you are unsure whether a permanent close is the right step, choose a long temporary closure first, for example six months. At the end of that period you can decide again whether to reactivate the account or close it permanently. That intermediate step leaves room for reflection without losing the option to reconsider.

What happens to my personal data after closure?

After your account is closed, we remove personal data where the legal retention rules allow. Financial records and transaction history are kept for the period required by HMRC and UK accounting rules. Identity documents are kept for five years after the last contact under UK anti-money-laundering rules. Marketing preferences are deleted immediately.

Once the legal retention period ends, all remaining data is deleted automatically. If you have specific questions about your data during the retention period, you can raise a subject access request via privacy@fscasino.co.uk.
